Christmas in Cooroy

Christmas in Cooroy
Saturday 4th December 2010
Last year (2009) saw the most fantastic Christmas in Cooroy to date.

The planning for 2010 will commence in February and this website will be updated as more information is available.  Christmas in Cooroy will be held on Saturday 4th December 2010 and is bought to you by the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Cooroy.  Anybody interested in be a participant (either a volunteer, sponsor or stall holder) should email advertising@cooroy.com.au

Info below relates to the 2009 event.

Christmas in Cooroy 2009 was another resounding success with record attendance and record entries in competitions across the board.  It is estimated that over 5,000 people attended and everyone enjoyed a fantastic day.

There were more free rides and entertainment in Apex Park than ever before thanks to the Cooroy Rag and Lukes Supa IGA.  And the heritage displays including wood chopping, machinery, equipment and costumes added a whole new dimension to the event.

Santa’s arrival on a trike, complete with motorbike reindeer escort was a spectacle in itself and we aren’t sure who enjoyed themselves more – the kids or the big kids!  Not to mentioned the biggest fireworks display ever thanks to Cooroy Mountain Spring Water and Wimmers Softdrinks.  A big thank you to KC’s Fireworks for doing such an amazing display!

Bendigo Bank Street Parade

The theme for 2009 was "Look to the past, enjoy the present, imagine the future".

There were a record number of float entries and the winning float entry was from Cooroy State School with their two sided float showing what school life was like then and now!

Noosa to Hinterland Plumbing
Great Santa Race

Forty-five Santa’s raced in the inaugural Noosa to Hinterland Plumbing Group Great Santa Race with Sam Watt, Eddie Stralhan and Norbert Petras taking out 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.  This was a fantastic start to a new component of Christmas in Cooroy and we imagine next year will only be bigger and better!

Photo Competition

The Guardian Pharmacy Photo Competition had a huge response this year.  About 250 entries were received and Cr Lew Brennan, who judged the photo competition was impressed by the overall standard.  The theme of the competition was “Looking Out My Back Door” and prizes were awarded to the winners at the Butter Factory on Saturday 5th December.

Jessica Law, aged 10 took out the first prize.  Lew Brennan explained, “Jessica’s photo is a classic Australian rural scene with exceptional handling of the light.  The structure of the picture is excellent with the crisp red flowers at front catching your eye and the branches leading your eye through the photo.  It has a very pleasing feel.”

Second was a photo by Craig Reid of two of his beloved dogs. “This photo is a wonderful emotive picture of two great subjects that jump off the page due to the contrast of the white dogs against the grassy green background.  And the clarity is of exceptional standard”.

And in third place was a panoramic rural scene by Gail Gray which “is a great shot of typical Australiana and Australian landscape.  There is an honesty to this photo as it doesn’t try to hide any bits – the rusty van, bits of farm equipment and the dairy shed are truly representative of life on the land.  There is a softness of the lush landscape and the picture is welcoming and has nice composition.”

A selection of entries from the Guardian Pharmacy Photographic Competition are on display in the Butter Factory for the next couple of weeks in conjunction with a heritage clothing display and some heritage photos.
